Walk from Malahide to Greystones RFC

-

Members and supporters of Malahide Rugby Club will leave their north County Dublin base at 6 a.m. on Sunday morning, August 26, to walk the 36 miles to Greysetones Rugby Club.

The walk is being held to support IRFU rugby players with serious spinal injuries.

Lots of hikers will be joining them as they make their way along the Dublin coastal route, via a number of rugby clubs, on the various legs of the Grand Slam Walk.

There will be tea and refreshments afterwards at the Greystones clubhouse.

‘ This is the first time we have ever done something like this but we think it’s for a wonderful charity,’ said spokesman from Malahide. ‘Sometimes there are accidents on the rugby field and it’s nice to know there is support for you if it did happen.’

Since 1978 the IRFU Charitable Trust has worked tirelessly to assist severely injured rugby players in their everyday lives.

‘We are delighted that we have teamed up with Greystones on this historic day. As rugby players/clubs go, we are all one big rugby family.

The walk will include Portmarnock, Sutton, Clontarf, Sandymount, Blackrock, Dun Laoghaire, Shankill and Bray before the hikers make their way to Greystones Rugby Club.
