Sea Scouts travel to Malta for marine event

-

Eight scouts and their leaders from 5th Wicklow Sea Scouts in Bray have been invited to participate in a seven-day international event organised by the Scout Association of Malta’s Msida Sea Scouts.

This will be an outdoor camping adventure with the aim to empower youths to make a change though active engagement in discussions and possible solutions to be presented to policy makers at the end of the project.

The group made an application based on their own marine-conservation efforts and came first among many applications from other groups.

Their projects have included beach-cleaning, and encouraging restaurants to stop using plastic straws.

They travel next week for the event organised under the Erasmus programme as a means to create marine conservation awareness and a possible way forward.

The event aims to improve Scouting co-operation on marine conservation topics following the conference ‘An Ocean For Life’ which was hosted in Malta by the European Union last year.

The event will of course be a great opportunity to create international contacts, exchange Scouting experiences and empowering the scouts with the means for making a change when they return home.

Youths Saving Our Seas ( Youths S.O.S) is an international Co-operation between Sea Scouts from Malta, UK, Ireland, Poland and Slovakia on Marine and Fresh Water conservation, Marine pollution and Sustainable fishing.
