Arklow’s Emma lands grant for filming of ‘Pat’

-

AN ARKLOW writer and her team have won a £22,000 grant in an international competition aimed at encouraging females within the film industry to pursue projects.

Emma Wall’s script for ‘Pat’ a film set in Dingle claimed one of just five movie-making grants and chosen from a pool of 1,100 applicants.

‘Myself and my team are so excited to have received this funding. It is such a huge opportunity and a great stepping stone for our careers. We can’t wait to shoot “Pat” and bring the film to life,’ Emma told this newspaper.

Emma, along with director Claire Byrne and producer Jo Halpin, will soon start shooting the film and it will be released at an industry event in January.

The Bumble Female Film Force competition was launched by dating app Bumble with the aim of promoting female talent in the film industry and highlighting gender imbalance.

The trio who set up Alfonso Films, have already produced the short film ‘Spent’ together.

‘Pat’ is set in 1975, and tells the story of a mother who stays connected to her son in New York through the only phone in the village.

When the local phone box rings, as it does every Wednesday at 3 p.m, it’s Pat’s son Conn calling from New York.

The job of fetching Pat to take the call usually falls to a local – nine-year-old Rossa, who spends most Wednesdays making sure she gets to the phone on time.
