Calary set to host four more concerts

- By MYLES BUCHANAN

FOUR concerts remain as part of this year’s Music in Calary series starting with a performance in Calary Church on Friday, September 7.

Soprano Sarah Power will be accompanied by Andrea Linsbauer on piano, while Ella Nagy will join them with piano solos. Ella is another very promising young Irish pianist.

Sarah enjoys a busy international career on both the opera and concert stage. Recent performances include Belinda in Scottish Opera Connect’s production of Dido and Aeneas, the title role in a newly-devised work entitled Hazel: Made in Belfast at the Carnegie Hall, New York and the role of Mary in the world première of Mary Gordon with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra at the National Concert Hall, Dublin.

On Wednesday, September 12, west Wicklow pianist Fiachra Garvey will play works by Brahms, Chopin, Field, and Rachmaninov at the Janet Ashe Memorial Concert. He will be performing similar works in Germany three days later and at various UK festivals.

Miriam Roycroft (cello) and Lance Coburn (piano) will play works by Beethoven, Chopin, Martinu and Moeran on Friday, September 14.

Musici Ireland opened this year’s Music in Calary with their concert back in May so it is only fitting that they finish off this year’s programme as well. On Friday, October 5, they will play, among other pieces, bassoon quartets by Stamitz and Danzi. The artists performing will be Mia Cooper (violin), Beth McNinch (viola), Bill Butt (cello) and John Hearne (Bassoon).

All the concerts start at 8 p.m. and refreshments will be served at the interval.

Tickets cost €18 or €15 with a concession. Contact Derek Neilson or John Medlycott on (01) 2818146 or by email to derekneilson@eircom.net.
