St Fergal’s Legends win epic encounter

-

ST. Fergal’s Legends edged the eighth annual Patrick King Memorial Shield on Saturday evening to tie it at four games apiece between themselves and Glencormac United Legends.

After an incredible 8-8 draw in the 90 minutes, the Bray side kept their cool from 12 yards to level the series in memory of their friend Patrick and his sister Fiona.

Fergal’s lead 2-4 at one stage in the second period but then United introduced a man by the name of Damien Duff and - as you can imagine - he had quite the influence on proceedings. Glencormac went 6-4 ahead but the goals continued to fly in at both ends before everyone could again draw breath at the end of the 90 minutes following 16 goals.

Colm Nolan starred for Glencormac with a hat-trick whilst Duff chipped in with a goal too.

For the Saints, Kieran Conway staked his claim for the matchball with a treble of his own but the goal of the night belonged to Paul O’Brien as he netted from the half-way line.

Fergal’s had an Irish interna- tional of their own though in the shape of Irish CP ace Ryan Nolan and they also boasted First Dates Ireland star Dave ‘Redser’ Kelly.

After the drama of the shoot-out, it was off to The Wild Goose for a few drinks and a raffle with all proceeds going to Pieta House.
