East Coast Samaritans put call out for new volunteers

Volunteers with the East Coast Samaritans are calling on anyone interested in joining their ranks to come along to one of the group’s upcoming informatio­n meetings.

Based in Arklow, East Coast Samaritans serves Wicklow and north Wexford and is staffed by volunteers from both counties.

In order to extend the local service, the local group is constantly seeking new volunteers.

To find out more about what is involved in volunteeri­ng, come along to one of the upcoming informatio­n evenings which will take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 28, at Arklow Library and 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 30, at Gorey Library. The East Coast Samaritans had a very successful day fundraisin­g and raising awareness at the Tinahely Show recently.

During the day, the group raffled a number of beautiful hampers, which were packed full of donations from retailers and businesses in the Arklow and Gorey areas.

Among those to visit the Samaritans stand at the show was the Minister for Health, Simon Harris, who commended the volunteers for their work.

‘I was very happy to be able to visit the East Coast Samaritans stand at the Tinahely Show and meet some of the volunteers who do such wonderful work,’ he said. ‘I would like to commend the Samaritans for the excellent service they provide for those in most need, at all hours of the day and night.’
