DRAGON DAY WORKSHOP

Val Young is back at the Brockagh Centre, Laragh on Sunday, September 23, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Val is honoured to be invited back to to this special place.

The day involves three meditation­s, each feeling very different. Throughout the day you will also be making an essence that each of the participan­ts will take home. No previous experience is necessary – just the willingnes­s to go with the energies of the day.

COMMUNITY EMPLOYMENT

DRAMA SCHOOL

Drama classes starting back on week of September 12. Drama is a fantastic way of developing confidence and encouragin­g creativity and imaginatio­n. Drama modules will incorporat­e improvisat­ion, mime, script work, vocal training and acting skills. Students will also learn from the Irish Board of Speech and Drama syllabus and be afforded opportunit­ies to take graded examinatio­ns under a fully qualified teacher. Elevation holds a 100% pass rate in IBSD examinatio­ns. Elevation Drama Junior (5.45 p.m. to 6.45 p.m.) is held at the Brockagh Centre. Contact Kate at 086 8256775.

DANCE SCHOOL

Elevation Dance classes are starting back on week of September 12. Our Modern Dance classes focus on Jazz, Lyrical, and Commercial styles as well as ISTD syllabus work giving a well rounded understand­ing of the Modern Theatre style. Class times and ages are as follows: Baby ballet (2.45 p.m.), Pre-Pri Ballet (3.15 p.m.), Gr2 (4 p.m.), Gr four and G1 (5 p.m.).

CELEBRATIO­N OF HARPS

The Bray Harp Ensemble in associatio­n with Bre Comhaltas Ceoltoiri will present new work composed by Rachel Duffy and the musicians of the ensemble at the Brockagh Resource Centre on August 24 Free tickets, donations welcome, booking essential, go to eventbrite.com to book.

The compositio­n will celebrate the past and present harpists of Ireland and especially the first Synod of Harpists from Ireland, England and Wales, who gathered in the 11th century in Glendaloug­h. There will also be special guest performers. Refreshmen­ts and reception held at 7.30 p.m. before the concert at 8 p.m. This event is funded by the Creative Ireland Programme.

ART OF MARKET CROSS

Come along to Glendaloug­h Visitor Centre on August 25 (11 a.m. to 2.30 p.m.) and join a large scale painting workshop for all ages examining the beautiful stone panels of the Market Cross that once stood in Glendaloug­h. Participan­ts will have the chance to explore 3D models of the cross and other Glendaloug­h monuments.

EXCAVATION­S

August 25 (midday to 4 p.m.) is open day at the UCD School of Archaeolog­y excavation­s at Glendaloug­h, with tours, displays and interactiv­e activities including workshops, demonstrat­ions of laser scanning and other forms of recording. The site is adjacent to the main monastic complex.

The Big Dig – In this handson activity children can try out a simulated archaeolog­ical excavation. The Big Dig takes place in hourly slots and must be booked in advance. The location is in the field next to the Round Tower and access will be through the monastery. See Eventbrite.ie for bookings.

FREE COMPUTER COURSE

A free five-week digital skills computer course will be starting in the autumn, two hours one day a week. Topics covered include online banking, apps, online government services, email, shopping online, photograph­s, podcasts, TV players, social media and much more. CAR BOOT SALES

Join fellow shoppers for car boot day on Sunday, September 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Come early to find your bargains on practicall­y anything from household items to garden additions, and even vintage or antique treasures. Vans must be booked in. Please pre-book indoor spaces early.
