Registrati­on night for 2018/19 will be held in the community centre on Wednesday, August 29, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

As the cub section is reopening this year, priority for spaces will be given to re-joining members (please email the group leader to confirm your place before reg night) and those coming from beavers. Please also note the change in times and locations for this year.

DISTRICT FORUM

Next Form meeting is on Tuesday, September 25, 7.30 in the Community Center. The AGM will be held at this meeting also. Open meeting all are welcome to attend.

BUS SERVICE

The local link bus route 1413 will depart from the church at 10.30 a.m. every first Wednesday of the month to Nutgrove. Leaving Nutgrove at 2.30 p.m. to return to Newtown and will stop at Garden Village.

Every third Wednesday of the month the bus will depart the church at 10.30 to Blanchards­town. Leaving Blanchards­town at 2.30 p.m.

If anyone has issues getting to the church they can call local link at 056 7715912 and they will accommodat­e home pick ups where they can.

BINGO

There is bingo every Friday evening in the Community Center. Contact the Community Center at 012810913 for details.

TIDY TOWNS

Tidy towns meet every Monday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the Main Street. If you have an hour or so free to help keep our village tidy and meet some new neighbours please pop down and join us. Contact Paul for details 087 1458164.

EDUCATE TOGETHER CAMPAIGN

There is a primary school approved for Newtown to open in 2019. All patronages are welcome to campaign for this school and the public will have the opportunit­y to vote for their preferred patronage through the Dept of Education. Educate Together are running a campaign for the school. Anne Gregory is supporting the campaign locally if anyone would like to get involved in the campaign contact Anne at 086 84022.

GAA CLUB NOTES

The seniors had a well-deserved draw against Annacurra in the final game of the championsh­ip. The draw will hopefully give the team the confidence to win the battle to remain in the senior championsh­ip.

The under-9s all performed well at a recent blitz in Rathnew, a great evening was had by all. Their next blitz is on this Friday, August 24, in Arklow followed by their last blitz of the year in Ballinakil­l on September 22.

Training continues every Monday at 6.30 p.m. give Alun a bell at 086 3017500 for more informatio­n. The under-11s are due to play Kiltegan tonight at home but the match could be moved to Ballinakil­l so please check fixtures for confirmati­on. The under-13s had a couple of great wins recently against Bray and Clara Gaels, the lads are still unbeaten in the league, their next outing is Friday away to Clan na Gael followed by an away game against An Tochar next Monday,

Training continues every Monday at 6.30 p.m. for the under-11s and at 6.30 p.m. on Wednesday for the under-13s. The under-15s are due to play Aughrim away tonight (Wednesday) but please check fixtures for confirmati­on.

All our juvenile teams are always on the lookout for more players and volunteers so if you want to get involved with any aspect with either a boys or girls’ team give our secretary Tom a buzz at 087 6611480. The under-eight_ u10 girls had a great blitz last Saturday in Bray where they all performed fantastic, they are training on Tuesdays at 6.30 p.m.

The under-12 girls had a great win over An Tochar last week in the shield semi-final the girls have reached the A shield final which is on Sunday the 26th in Ballinakil­l, no time or opposition is known yet. They train twice a week on Tuesdays and Friday at 6.30 p.m.

Training for the under-14 girls continues on Mondays and Thursdays at 7 p.m., the girls travelled to Bray last week for the first championsh­ip game of the group and despite being a number of regulars short they came away with a victory, we had to call up a few of the under-12s who all played a vital part and didn’t seem fazed or out of place against a much bigger opposition. Panel on the night-Laragh Davis, Emma Walsh, Katelyn O’Toole, Rebecca Gillan, Nicole King, Anastazja Rasniak, Grace Murphy, Alyssia Larkin, Una Power, Tia McDonald, Alicia Farrell, Sophie o Reilly, Hannah Martin, Anna Faye Hanley, Shelby McDonald, Tara Carey, Kim Elliott, Lucy Duffy, Rose Kelly Tynan and Naoise Cluskey. Their next match is on Tuesday at home to St Pat’s.

Well done to all who attended the Cúl Camps recently especially the hard-working coaches.

The draw for the football all-Ireland ticket’s is on in the clubhouse on the Thursday be- fore the match and is open to all members.

All membership is now overdue and as we are operating a strictly no pay no play policy it is advisable to please pay ASAP as the deadline has long passed.

We offer our deepest sympathies to Michael, Paula, Una and the large extended family and friends of Kathy Shelly, who passed away last week. Our deepest condolence­s also to the family and friends of Julia O’Toole (Kilmac) who passed away recently. May they both rest in peace.

This week’s lotto is a huge €9,600 as it rolled over again, 10 people matched three numbers last week each taking away €20. Numbers drawn were 3, 11, 21 and 22. Please buy a ticket and help support our club.

NEWTOWN JUNIORS FC

The WDSL have organised PDP Parent/Coach Workshops before the season resumes on September 9. Dates/Venues/ Times as follows: Tuesday, August 28 – Rathnew FC (7 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.). Tuesday, September 4 – Newtown Community Centre (7 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.).

The FAI PDP (Player developmen­t Plan) format is now a compulsory requiremen­t within the FAI and for teams participat­ing within the WDSL These workshops are used to educate the coaches and parents of what is required within the plan regarding structure, pitch dimensions, playing time, rules etc.

These workshops are free, and will take no longer than 90 minutes. We urge all coaches working within the SSG game format from 5v5 to 9v9 Level to attend at least one workshop.

We aim to get all Coaches/ Managers from our club to attend, these free workshops. There are three Venues. All clubs will be invited to put forward their Coaches/Managers to attend the closest venue. Anyone, who is interested in attending one of these workshops please let our secretary know as soon as possible.

We would also like to extend this invitation to parents of the children, as they should have a basic knowledge of the PDP so they understand what the club and coaches are implementi­ng on a weekly basis.

Just some informatio­n regards when all our teams will resume there on field action after the summer break. Under-8s, 9s and 10s will return the weekend of the Sat/Sunday, September 8/9. under-11s upwards will start back the weekend of the Sat/Sunday, September 1/2.

All Fixtures Competitiv­e and Non-Trophy will finish weekend of November 17/18, followed by the WDSL Awards, Presentati­on Day in the Parkview Hotel Sunday, November 25 (details times etc to follow in Oct),

Only the one player from the club celebratin­g a birthday in the coming week and he is Justin Davies from the Developmen­t Squad. Happy birthday Justin from everyone at Newtown Juniors FC.

There are also a couple of slots on all our teams at the moment so if there are any girl’s or boys who would like to join the club please contact our secretary Hughie at 087 6987653 and he will provide you with all the informatio­n you will require. Gradually some of our teams are starting back training for the start of the competitio­ns and they are as follows: under-10 (players Born in 2008) on Thursday 6.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m.; under-11 (Players born in 2007) on Saturday 11 a.m. to midday; under-12 (Players born in 2006) on Thursday 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. (Times and Dates may change)

On a sadder note the club would like to convey their sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Kathy Shelly (Killadreen­an) and Helen (Nell) Tighe (Kilpedder) who both passed away recently. May they rest in peace.
