Sea scouts display historic skiffs during heritage week

Bray’s 5th Wicklow Sea Scouts opened their den doors recently for a day to display their skills to the public.

The event at the harbour facility was held as part of National Heritage Week.

While there are several boats in the den, for heritage week the troupe invited visitors to see the work on their two historic rowing boats, the East Coast Skiffs. These are a design of boat unique to the east of Ireland.

Guests got to see the process of making oars and other equipment for these unique craft.

Everyone also got a chance to talk to the scouts and leaders about the boat maintenance.

There was also the opportunity to get out in a skiff around the harbour.
