Big night for ‘Baz’

Kennedy on the Katie Taylor card in Boston in October

- DANIEL GORMAN Sports Reporter

WICKLOW-BASED Niall Kennedy has joined the card that sees Katie Taylor defend her world title at the TD Garden in Boston on October 20th.

The Wexford man, a garda stationed in the Garden County, will put his unbeaten professional record on the line at the 20,000 capacity which is the home of the NBA team Boston Celtics.

Kennedy and Taylor are both set to feature on the undercard of the Billy Joe Saunders WBO world middleweight clash against Demetrius Andrade.

It was in 2015 that Kennedy made the step-up from the amateur ranks and the 34-year old’s impressive record in that time is 11-0-1 (7KO’s) and he lost his 100% in June as he drew against Joel Caudle.

Paschal Collins is Kennedy’s trainer and his gym - Celtic Warrior Gym - is based in Corduff.

Kennedy is no stranger to Boston as nine of his 12 fights were fought there and he earned the Massachussets and New England heavyweight titles in the state located on the east coast of the USA.

A press conference has been arranged for this Friday but Kennedy will not be in attendance as he informed The42.ie that he’ll be “keeping the streets (of) Wicklow quiet, unfortunately”.

Kennedy, known as “Boom Boom Baz”, does not yet know who his opponent will be.
