Great interest in butter making

-

THE Dunlavin community received an insight into butter-making recently when local farmer Arthur Craigie gave a demonstration as part of Heritage Week.

Arthur, who runs Dunlavin Dairy, was invited to take part in this year’s event by the local Heritage Week volunteer committee and set up a small churn on the village green.

Spectators of all ages gathered the watch Arthur churn cream from his own dairy into butter.

‘ They were interested in the process and some of the children took turns churning it, which they enjoyed,’ said Arthur.

Once the butter was churned, it was salted and then came the tasting.

Everyone present enjoyed tasting what had been created in just 20 minutes and some got to take samples home.

The butter-making demonstration was just one of many events taking place throughout the county for Heritage Week 2018, which drew to a close on Sunday.
