Plans resurface for urn wall at cemetery

-

OFFICIALS at Bray Municipal District have returned to plans to install a Columbarium wall at Springfield Cemetery in Bray.

The wall would be used to display urns containing ashes.

Engineer Stephen Fox said that the wall is going out to tender.

He said that the project should proceed early next year.

Last March, the head of finance told members of Wicklow County Council that there was provision within the revenue budget for the development of urn walls in the municipal districts.

Cllr John Ryan said that these plans date back to before the abolition of Bray Town Council and they just didn’t happen.

He asked why they are just talking about the wall, and not the previously planned landscaping, seats or contemplation area.

Mr Fox said that the suppliers involved would be different, and that they would phase the works. ‘It’ll be delivered in stages,’ he said.

Cathaoirleach, Cllr Pat Vance, said that ‘we need it done, and we need it done quickly’.

‘We’ve been waiting a long time for this,’ said Cllr Vance.

He said he hopes there is funding for the project. ‘ The funding was there when the town council was dissolved in 2014,’ he said. ‘Is it still there?’

Cllr Joe Behan asked that the original designs be circulated to the members.
