Tidy Towns distribute paper straws in Bray

-

Earlier this year Bray Tidy Towns were awarded a grant of €500 by Repak recyclers who supported the Voice Ambassador programme.

This meant that during the summer, Bray Tidy Towns distributed paper straws for trialling to seafront outlets. ‘In all cases we received very favourable feedback and the paper straws stood up positively to the “can we really use them” test,’ said a spokeswoman for BTT.

‘Increasingly there is a move against the use of once off use plastic and this includes small plastic items such as straws. In fact Westport has got the commitment from all vintners in the town that they would cease using plastic straws by mid 2018.’

The initiative was part of Bray Tidy Towns’ effort to help Bray businesses become enthusiastic recyclers and re-users.

This followed a very successful ‘conscious cups’ campaign run earlier in the year.

Outlets which agreed to try out the paper straws included the Martello, Jim Doyle’s, Vergnano, The Ice Cream Parlour, Butler and Barry and Cassoni’s.

Many of the other outlets reported that they had commenced using recycling and compostable straws already.

Bray Tidy Towns wish to thank all those who participated and those who already use compostable and recyclable straws.

‘This all helps to put our great town on the recyclers map,’ they said.
