Stars of reading receive certificates from the library for doing summer challenge

-

GREYSTONES bookworms went to the town’s library last Saturday to be rewarded for a summer of reading.

The children received certificates for taking part in the Summer Stars Reading Adventure. Wicklow Library Service ran the programme in all library branches throughout the summer.

Each child was invited to register for the adventure at their local library and enjoy reading many books as part of the adventure during the summer holidays.

They got a Summer Stars reading card to record and track their progress, and a library reward stamp was added to the card after each completed book.

Cathaoirleach of Greystones Municpipal District Nicola Lawless presented the young readers with their certificates, and storyteller Niall de Burca regaled them with extraordinary tales.

Thousands of children all over Wicklow took part in the programme, which kept boys and girls reading over their summer holidays.

This was the third year of Summer Stars. Summer Stars provides the whole family with an opportunity to explore the full range of children’s library services, including story time sessions, book clubs, children’s events, access to talking books and games, workshops, computers and internet access, and of course children’s books for all ages.
