Victorian showcase
THIS year’s Enniskerry Festival, which took place at Monastery House, was a resounding success, with visitors embracing the Victorian theme of the event with great enthusiasm.
The opening night on Friday saw Bagatelle rock the crowd with their catalogue of hits as they performed in the festival marquee before a sell-out crowd.
The organisers of the event worked really hard at ensuring there was something of interest for all members of the family and the second day of the festival saw a Victorian Field Day take place on the grounds of the house on Sunday. Many of those who attended dressed up in period costume which added greatly to the colour and atmosphere on the day.
There was a wide range of attractions and activities on-site, including bouncy castles, pony rides, games, children’s sports, music and arts and crafts.
A soap box derby proved particularly popular and some of the entries showcased the inherent engineering skills of those involved as their entries were very impressive.
The organisers were very appreciative of the support their received from local businesses which sponsored the event and this year’s main charity partner was Purple House, the Bray-based charity organisation which provides support services to people affected by cancer.
Another charity set to benefit from this year’s event is Open Door in Bray, which caters for adults with physical disabilities. The festival also supports local parishes in the Enniskerry area.
