Bereaved parents invited to attend information event

-

ANAM Cara, the support organisation for bereaved parents, will be hosting a bereavement information evening in Newtownmountkennedy next week.

The event will take place at 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 26, in the Parkview Hotel and will feature a contribution from guest speaker Brid Carroll, who will speak about the many challenges families and individuals may face after the death of a child. Ms Carroll is a qualified psychotherapist, counselling supervisor and experienced bereavement professional who has worked with a special interest in loss and bereavement issues for over 20 years.

This free information evening is open to all bereaved mothers and fathers regardless of the age or circumstances of their child’s death, and whether this was recent or not.

CEO of Anam Cara Sharon Ward, herself a bereaved parent, said that whatever the circumstances of a child’s death, it’s important parents get the support they need.

‘At Anam Cara we know there is no ideal age or circumstances when a precious son or daughter dies. What is important is that parents can access information and support. We would encourage bereaved parents of a child of any age – no matter whether the death happened recently or many years ago – to consider coming along. Here you can find a level of support and understanding that – even with the best will in the world – it can be difficult for family and friends to offer,’ she said.
