THE DESERVING WINNERS OF THIS YEAR’S AWARDS

ELEVEN of the Garden County’s unsung heroes will be celebrated at the County Wicklow People of the Year Awards this week.

Run by the Wicklow Hospice Foundation and Wicklow County Council in conjunction with the Wicklow People and Bray People, the awards shine a light on ordinary, hard-working people whose efforts have seen them achieve great things. The County Wicklow People of the Year will be presented with their awards at a gala event in the Glenview Hotel this Friday, September 21.

Earlier this year, an appeal went out to the people of Wicklow to nominate those they felt deserving of an award – and they certainly answered the call, with a record 59 names put forward for consideration and numerous individuals receiving multiple nominations.

It was an extremely tough job selecting this year’s winners and while the judging panel would love to have given an award to all the deserving nominees, they eventually settled on these eleven marvellous individuals.

Between them, they have raised hundreds of thousands for charity, showcased Wicklow’s enviable sporting prowess, founded organisations and groups that have changed people’s lives, volunteered for decades in their communities, and helped others out in a crisis. Selfless, dedicated, kind, compassionate and driven were just some of the words used to describe them.
