Our under-13 hurlers took on Kilcoole at home in the complex on Saturday in what is their last match this season.

With only nine players togging out, our lads had to fight hard, with the help of two Kilcoole players.

Their fight however, was not enough with kilcoole coming out on top.

Unfortunately, due to lack of numbers, our championship dreams have been put on hold for another year.

These lads haven’t had a full team all season, but have shown such determination in every match. They could have hung their heads, or walked away from their team... But that’s not what team mates do. They come back, week after week, determined to do better, learn more and perfect their skills.

After a short break, they will be back again, training through the winter, hopefully with a few more players coming out of the woodwork. They’ll be ready, as a team, to face whatever next season throws at them. They will be back, for the love of hurling runs deep through these guys and they will be stronger from the lessons learned this year.

Your parents, coaches and club couldn’t be prouder of you.

2018 Panel: Conor Doyle, Conor Hayes, Conor McGuirk, Caleb Fox, Killian Foley, Kelvin Browne, Jamie Townsend Doyle, and Jack McDonald, Noah Fahy.

Our under-11 hurlers traveled to St. Pats on Wednesday looking for another win and after a cracking game we came out on top with a scoreline of 0-24 to 0-16. Team: James Turner, Calem Nagle, Kevin Mullahy, Tyler O’Neill, Kevin Murphy, Tyler Byrne, Joe Jacob, Jake Nolan, Leighton O’Toole, Cameron Byrne, Adam Kearns, and Leighton Gahan. Great result, lads.

Our under-11 footballers play away to St. Pats this evening at 6.30pm. Training continues every Friday 6-7pm.

Well done to the under-7s who played in the football Go Games blitz in Ballinakill Saturday afternoon.

This was their last game this year where they have played 20 hurling and football Go Games during the year, the improvement in the boys and girls since the start of the year has been immense. They have played with great determination and skill and the club are very proud of you all.

And finally, we would like to thank all the parents who helped out in any capacity throughout the year by washing jerseys, refereeing games, organizing refreshments, helping out some nights at training and for encouraging the boys and girls to play and train all year round. Well done, everyone.

RATHNEW

We had a great win on Sunday in the senior championship playoff against Hollywood.

The team started very poorly in the first half. This wasn’t helped by the niggly and late tackling by our opponents.

It was a tough game for the ref to handle, and the lads feel the ref was let down by some of his umpires that didnt bring to his attention some of the late tackling and striking off the ball.

After the interval, the lads emerged a much better team and rallied off some glorious points without reply, we also added two goals to the scoreline from Eddie Doyle and Leighton Glynn, where our back line kept Hollywood to a solitary point in the second half.

This was a great performance from the lads considering they played over half the game with 14 men.

The team was driven forward by some of the players many seem to be writing off. Namely, Damien Power, Paul Merrigan, Nicky Mernagh and Leighton Glynn. Our midfield coped well without the assistance of big Jem and we are looking forward now to the semi-final.

Well done to our under-17/Minor team who had a great win away to Clara Gaels in the ‘A’ championship last Tuesday.

This was an all-round team performance from everyone and the lads fully deserved their victory on a wet evening up in Avondale.

The team played some great football in the first half and really should have been further ahead at the break.

They lead 1-4 to 1-3 at this stage. The lads tho were very determined in the second half and put in great effort right till the final whistle and winning on a final score of 2-9 to 1-7.

Team and scorers: Reece Doyle, Killian Clarke, Tristan O’Toole, Charlie Cruz, Fionn O’Sullivan, Nickey Kearney, Ewan Culbert, Sam O’Dowd, Jenson O’Connor 0-2, Sean Coffey 1-1, Ross Quinn, Shane Cullinan, Dylan Smith 0-3, Eoin Doyle 1-3, Kian Furlong, Jack Manley, Cian O’Neill, TJ O’Neill, Owen Gregory.

PS: The coaches and players would like to thank everyone for their support last night.

All at the club send condolences to the Hunter family on the passing of Harry. Harry donned the red and green jersey on many occasions. RIP.

Mixed fortunes last weekend for club teams. On Friday the senior footballers played the relegation match against Éire Óg. The game didn’t go well. We went down 1-14 to 1-4.

On Saturday the Junior camogie team played Aughrim in the Junior county final. This was tight all the way and ended in a draw. Hopefully they will be successful in the replay.
