ARKLOW TULLOW 12 42

TRANSITION from mini to youth rugby can be a difficult experience.

However not for the under-14s team from arklow who combined forces with their Gorey counterparts literally in the warm up to the game on Saturday at the Oval.

The team was formed due to low numbers on each side. And under the leadership of captains Doireann and Mary, who previously had been rivals, the team held together on a day that anything could have happened.

Passion for the game was evident from the beginning and between superb throws from Katie Hanley and immense line breaks from Eimear smashing the Tullow line on more than a few occasions.

Experience shone through, however it was try saving tackles from the newbie full back Abigail that most impressed the supporters.

From one to 13 and subs the girls really gave it everything playing for each other, and even though they didn’t know each other it is a testament to their love for rugby that they performed so well. They are definitely a team to watch for the future Arklow’s under-14 girls train every Wednesday 7-8.30pm and Saturday morning 10.30-12, so if you think you may like to join our team pop out to the club to meet the team. Or contact the girls coach, Danielle Kavanagh, on 0851155167.
