JUNIOR CERT RESULTS

Congratula­tions to all our students who received their Junior Certificat­e results last Wednesday. We hope everyone was rewarded for all the work they put in over the last three years. Thanks to everyone who supported and guided our students over this time, especially to the third year Year Head Mr Hughes and the team of third year tutors Mr McDowell, Ms Corrigan, Ms O’Brien and Ms Ward.

STUDENT COUNCIL

Well done to all the candidates who ran for the Student Council Elections 2018-2019 on September 10 Mr Rice and the counting committee said that this year’s election was a tightly run affair and after a number of counts the council for 2018-2019 was announced.

Congratula­tions to the following students who were successful­ly elected onto this year’s Student Council.

First year: Emma Walsh and Cayden Elliott. Second year: Mia Longmore and Daragh Heffernan. Third year: Rebecca Gillan and Luke Synnott TY: Alex Brady and Lucy Shortt. Fifth year: Megan Longmore and Adam Gallagher. Sixth year: Ross Carthy and Orla Quigley.

The Student Council coordinato­r Mr Rice wishes to thank the outgoing council for all their hard work last year and is now looking forward to working alongside the newly elected 2018 Student Council. We wish all involved the very best for the upcoming year.

EQUESTRIAN WIN

Congratula­tion to CCAs Rachel Grant, who took first place in the Interschoo­ls show jumping competitio­n in the Wexford Equestrian Centre last Saturday.

Rachel was the winner of a very hotly contested 90cm individual qualifier with a very fast jump off time. She was on board Mo Chúisle Mo Chroí who Rachel described as ‘the best mare on the day.’.

She has now qualified for the 90cm class next year and is jumping in the One Meter Class in Boswell Equestrian Centre on Saturday.

OPEN NIGHT

Coláiste Chraobh Abhann’s Open Night will take place on Thursday, September 20, from 6.30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Come meet our staff and students and get a flavour of what makes Coláiste Chraobh Abhann so special.

Take a tour around the school and see the wonderful facilities our school has to offer. Speak with our experience­d teachers about the broad subject choices in our Junior Cert, Transition Year, Leaving Cert and Leaving Cert Applied programme. Enjoy presentati­ons from our comprehens­ive extra-curricular activities including the school musical, sport clubs, school choir, drama club, student council and much much more.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Under-15s Boys’ Soccer train- ing has started back this week. Speak to Mr McDowell if you wish to be part of this year’s squad. Training will take place on Wednesdays after school.

GIRLS’ GAELIC FOOTBALL

There was a huge turnout for the girls’ Gaelic football training last week. Ms Doyle, Ms Ward and Ms Miley were delighted with the amount of players eager to play and to continue on the great success from last year. Training will take place every Thursday after school.

SPORTS PREFECTS

Students interested in applying for TY, fifth and sixth year Sports Prefects for this year are to submit their nomination­s to Mr Steele by the end of this week.

TY TRIP TO CAUSEY FARM

Our Transition Year students began the year with a brilliant action packed two-day adventure to Causey Farm in County Meath from Thursday, September 13, to Friday, September 14. The teachers and students participat­ed in many fun team-building activities, such as raft making, pizza making, bog-swimming, bodhrán playing and ceidhlí dancing. The trip to Causey Farm is one of the highlights of the TY Year. Thanks to the teachers who accompanie­d them on this exciting trip.

CAMOGIE TRAINING

Camogie training will begin next Tuesday after school. Ms Doran, Ms Lillis and Ms Keogh will be taking the team this year and would like to invite any girl interested in joining to come along. Best of luck to the team this year.

EXTRA – CURRICULAR LIST

Our comprehens­ive list of extra-curricular activities for 20182019 is now available on the school website, the extra-curricular noticeboar­d and at reception. We would encourage anyone interested in taking part in their preferred activity to speak to the organising teacher involved.
