JUNIOR CERT RESULTS
We would like to congratulate all of our Junior Certificate students on their excellent results and to thank the teachers and parents who supported the students in achieving their potential. We are confident that the positive results received in the Junior Certificate will motivate students towards further achievement and success in Coláiste Chill Mhantáin. A special word of congratulations goes to Jet Best and Eve Rafter, who topped the Junior Cert Results tally this year. Well done to all on a great success.
GOLF CLASSIC
Saturday, September 8, saw the inaugural Coláiste Chill Mhantáin golf classic take place in Wicklow Golf Club. This school fundraiser was developed to support the vast array of extracurricular activities running in the school. The day was hugely supported by local businesses and suppliers of the school which resulted in sponsorship for all tee boxes. With the weather holding well, we had twenty four teams tee off in both GUI and NON GUI team competitions.
There was no shortage of super prizes for both GUI and non-GUI teams and other prizes include a four ball in many local golf courses. Along with the golf classic that day, there was a monster raffle with over 30 prizes held in the school the following week.
Also, a big thank you to Wicklow Golf Club, who couldn’t have been more helpful in both the build up to the event and on the day itself. Support for the event was fantastic and the school would like to sincerely thank all those who played, helped organise, sponsored or donated raffle prizes.
Results: GUI Team Competition – first: Score 98 Team Tim Thornton. Second: Score 91 Team Ciaran Lally (on back 9). Third: Score 91 Team Sonny Cowman.
Non-GUI Competition – first: Score 91 Team Eoin McCarthy. Second: Score 88 Team Centra Ashford. Third: Score 83 Team Maurice Sheehy. The Longest Drive: Eugene Murphy. Nearest the Pin: Johnny Nolan.

Also, in our promotion of healthy options, free fruit is available to take away.
EVENING STUDY
Coláiste Chill Mhantáin’s Evening Study programme offers a quiet, supervised space within the school environment, where a student won’t be disrupted.
This is of huge benefit to all students to assist with their individual learning and completion of school related tasks. The fact that supervised evening study takes place four evenings a week for the school year means that students gain the advantage of developing a good routine regarding doing their homework and study. By being present in the same surroundings as their peers, students feel the support and connection to peers who are engaged in the same activity.
Study in Term one begins on Monday, September 10, and ends on Wednesday, December 19.
Evening study will not take place on the following dates due to Parent-Teacher Meetings etc. Tuesday, September 18, Tuesday, October 2, Tuesday, October 9, Thursday, October 18, Tuesday, October 23, Monday, November 5, Tuesday, November 20, Monday, December 3, Monday, December 10, Wednesday, December 12.
2018 SCHOOL SUMMIT
On September 10, all Transition Year students from Coláiste Chill Mhantáin travelled to the 2018 School Summit in Dublin, where they attended a number of presentations covering the areas of mental health, physical health, as well as listened to presentations which focused on different areas of employment.
A sample of the talks and presentations on offer included: Jason King from ‘Get Ireland Walking’ where he spoke about the physical and psychological benefits of exercise; Stuart Murphy the ‘HR Manager’ from ‘ABP Ireland and Poland Group’ who spoke about the apprenticeship opportunities with his company; Aoife Sheehy, the technical research and development officer for ‘FIT’, where she spoke about the ‘New Tech Apprenticeship Scheme’; Aidan Flynn from ‘The Freight Transport Association of Ireland’ who spoke about the ‘Logistics Associate Apprenticeship Scheme’; Keith Kavanagh from the ESB who presented on ‘Promoting Gender Balance in Technical Apprenticeships’; Shane Beirne from the ‘Irish Medtech Association’ who informed the students about the new ‘Manufacturing Apprenticeship and Polymer Technology Apprenticeship’; and Michelle Coyne from the IACP who spoke about ‘Counselling as a Career’.
The students were accompanied on the trip by their Year Head, Ms C Doyle, the school guidance counsellors, Ms I Doyle and Ms Bambrick, and Mr Devlin from the CCM construction studies department.
EXTRACURRICULAR
This year a wide range of extracurricular activities is on offer to all students. These range from fields such as sport and music to technology and science, to name but a few.
