Twoextrarail services

September 2008

-

WICKLOW commuters could be in for some good news in 2009 after Irish Rail said they intended to establish two extra services on the Dublin to Rosslare line.

It appears that four town councillors still hadn’t returned from their summer holidays as only councillors Irene Winters, Conal Kavanagh, Denis Teevan, Bob Kearns and Ollie Lalor attended Monday’s council meeting.

They heard Myles McHugh of Irish Rail explain that part of their 2009 service plan included an increase from three to five services a day, though he said the exact timetable had yet to be established.

Paid parking will also be introduced at Wicklow train station once a new carpark has been completed to the side of the station where a number of large containers currently reside.

Their new parking facility will supply between 45 and 50 spaces, though Irish Rail have plans in the future to expand this capacity.

‘We are talking about €2 a day while regular users can pay a special rate of €8 a week,’ said Mr. McHugh.

‘But you are unlikely to to see any charges in Wicklow until November at the very earliest.’
