A man who said the first he knew of a parking matter was a summons, discovered that the summons document now gives the recipient the opportunit­y to pay the fine and avoid court.

John Rankin, Calary, Kilmacanog­ue,was parked at a taxi rank on Strand Road on the evening of Saturday, December 2, 2017, Garda McDaid told the court.

‘The first indication I got was the summons,’ he said. ‘I don’t dispute it.’

Judge Kennedy handed down a fine of €120.
