German Ambassador is special guest speaker
The AGM of the Irish-German Society of County Wicklow took place in Bray Town Hall on Monday, September 17. Deike Potzel, German Ambassador to Ireland, was special guest speaker.
Chairman George Jones provided details of the work undertaken by the society during the past week and highlighted the new school partnership between Loreto Bray and Wurzburg as one of the major achievements during 2017.
Ambassador Deike Potzel said ‘since she became ambassador to Ireland she has very much moved around the country to encourage partnership arrangements between Ireland and Germany. It was most important in view of the many threats that presently exist that the friendship between Ireland and Germany is built up.’
Ambassador Potzel singled out the Irish-German Society in Wicklow as one of the best local organisations that is working on the partnerships that she has come across since her arrival in Ireland and praised George Jones and his committee for this great work.
Cllr John Ryan proposed a vote of thanks to the Ambassador and a small presentation on behalf of the society was made .
George Jones reminded members of the invitation by the German-Irish Association of Wurzburg to a wine reception in Bray in early November and that bookings were now been taken for the annual Christmas lunch and carols on December 1 in Druid’s Glen Golf Club.
