Bridget devoted herself to village life and loved meeting new people

-

GLENALY lost one of its most popular figures with the recent passing of Bridget Evans of Carrig View.

Bridget was the beloved wife of Mick and her loss is deeply regretted by her husband, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.

Bridget wasn’t born far from Glenealy and attended the Dominican Convent in Wicklow town during her school days.

Bridget was very much an important part of the tight-knit community in Glenealy. She operated a shop and newsagents in the village for a number of years and also spent some time working at Ballyfree.

She was also a great supporter of Glenealy Tidy Towns and took part in many of the clean-ups organised by the organisation.

She was a devoted fan of the local camogie and hurling clubs and would always deck out her car in the club colours when a big match was approaching. She loved gardening and spent many hours of the week planting and tending to her garden.

Bridget was also a woman whose faith was very personal to her. She travelled with Mick to Lourdes in the past and regarded it as an enlightening experience.

Bridget was a very social person who loved meeting people. She had a passion for bingo and adored travelling, often heading away for the weekend with friends and family.

Sadly a number of years ago Bridget contracted an infection to her leg which ended up spreading and causing her to have a double leg amputation. However, she still retained a bright outlook and refused to let this setback hold her back.

The respect with which she was held locally was evident when a local fundraising campaign raised €3,000 needed to adapt Bridget’s car so she could drive again and experience some ‘independence’. Bridget remained incredibly grateful and touched by the kind gesture shown to her by the community.

The funeral mass for Bridget was held at St Joseph’s Church, followed by her burial afterwards in Glenealy Cemetery.

May she rest in peace.
