A night to celebrate the arts
LOVERS of the arts were spoiled for choice last Friday as Culture Night events took place all over north Wicklow.
There was live music and literature, displays of hand-knitting, a hall of mirrors and information from health guru Karl Henry, as well as much more.
Wicklow County Council Arts Office participates in the national programme each year.
Culture Night is an all-island celebration of arts, heritage and culture, where venues and public spaces throw open their doors to host free late-night entertainment.
At Greystones Library, personal trainer Karl Henry gave encouraging, practical, and sustainable information about health and well-being.
Bray Literary Festival was launched with traditional story-teller John Care, while local harpist Rachel Duffy is set to perform some haunting melodies as part of an evening of poetry, stories and song.
Enniskerry Library showcased their ‘Yarn Bomb’ installation.
The knitting project is the conception of The Enniskery Knitters, and all members of the local community contributed.
There was music in the library in the afternoon, provided by local musician Mary Fogarty.
The circus came to Signal Arts Centre in Bray. Art works were installed in the morning including contributions from community groups. Events included children’s workshops and events. In Whale Theatre, Greystones, there was trad-fusion with some of Ireland’s finest traditional and experimental musicians.
