John Scottus celebrates new beginnings at school opening
JOHN SCOTTUS SCHOOL at Old Conna House had its official opening recently, attended by students and parents, staff past and present, and members of the board.
Former principal Dr Michael Telford cut the ribbon along with Mary Telford. Current principal Declan Kelly welcomed everyone and addressed those gathered for the happy occasion.
Everyone enjoyed the lovely weather on the day of the opening.
Professor Brendan Tangney presented a painting of the school to board member Ethna Dorman.
John Scottus, which also continues to operate in Dublin, bought the former Aravon school last year from Chris de Burgh.
De Burgh had been committed to the estate remaining in educational use.
John Scottus Old Conna is located on a 14-acre campus on Ferndale Road. The new building hosts fantastic facilities including exceptional grounds, over 25 classrooms, administration accommodation, staff room, dining room with kitchen facilities and car parking, all on 14 acres of forest and parklands.
The decision to relocate is a huge opportunity for John Scottus School as the Old Conna campus provides the resources, facilities and environment that will enrich the lives of all of the students and wider community.
Dr Declan Kelly, principal of the Secondary School said, ‘ The possibility of being able to offer a John Scottus education in such a spacious, magnificent, idyllic campus is a dream come true.
‘In addition to our students receiving excellent academic, emotional and spiritual nourishment, this move will now give access to fantastic facilities and space.’
Professor Brendan Tangney, Chair of the John Scottus Education Trust said: ‘ This is a huge opportunity for John Scottus to expand and grow in the longer term.’
