CCC to rule on Avondale no-show

-

A walk-over is the expected ruling from the no-show by Avondale for the Junior hurling league final against Bray Emmets last Sunday morning when the CCC meet to discuss the matter this week.

Sources in Wicklow GAA can see no other option after the Avondale club failed to turn up for the battle in Pearse’s Park with Bray Emmets and referee Con O Ceadaigh enduring a wasted journey.

Avondale manager Emmet O’Sullivan said that the hurling league finals were supposed to be played before any championship started and that they have now used a number of players in the championship who would have featured in the Junior team prior to the championship getting underway.

O’Sullivan said that repeated emails and phone calls in search of clarification with regard to whether those players could be played or not went unanswered and that Avondale had always made it clear that they would not be playing the league final unless those players were permitted to play.

Bray’s Jackie Napier stated that their Junior team are down eight players who have been used in championship hurling.

O’Sullivan said that the club didn’t receive clarification and couldn’t risk losing players for their upcoming IHC semi-final.
