WICKLOW 26 WEXFORD WANDERERS 14

WICKLOW RFC under-14 girls started their South East League campaign with a tough away trip to Wexford Wanderers RFC on Saturday, September 22.

The Wicklow squad of over 30 girls is made up of girls from last year’s under-14 squad, girls progressing from Wicklow’s minis teams together with girls from the summers successful ‘Give it a Try’ campaign.

The match in Wexford was the first 13-a-side game for many of the girls and proved to be as expected a very tough match.

The match was played in damp conditions on an excellent pitch in front of a large crowd of home and traveling supporters.

Wexford Wanderers have recently formed an under-14 squad and this was all of their girls’ second match ever.

Both squads were a credit to their clubs with the match tied at 14-14 at half-time. Wicklow then showed their experience and pulled away to finish ahead 26-14 in a hard-fought victory.
