Arklow Town too strong for gallant Greystones

ARKLOW TOWN GREYSTONES UTD 3 0

great long ball from defender Alex Cullen who picked out Brian O’ Hara, O’Hara went on a darting run down the right wing before squaring the ball to Fionn O’Reilly who laid the ball off to Caden Kinsella who slotted the ball through the legs of the goalkeeper. A great counter attack from the hosts with some excellent link up play between O’Hara, O’Reilly and Kinsella to secure a two-goal lead with 16 minutes played.

Greystones began to grow into the game as they looked to grab a goal back before half-time, on one occasion it looked like James Hayden would go on and score as he went one on one with Arklow keeper Niall Byrne, but Byrne got down quickly to parry the ball out of play and out of danger.

Greystones went in at half-time with a lot to do in the second half if they wanted to take something from the game.

Greystones almost grabbed a goal back in the first minute of the second half when James Hayden knocked the ball into the net, but unfortunately for his side the referee had his hand raised for offside.

Greystones continued to threaten from the counterattack, as soon as the away side regained possession they would quickly form a counterattack as they needed to get two goals in the second half. Cian Smith came close on the 51st minute when he was one on one with the Arklow keeper but again Byrne pulled off a great save to keep the score at 2-0 to his side.

Greystones were dealt a final blow in the 55th minute as Arklow Town made sure of their victory with a final third goal from substitute Darren Williams. Caden Kinsella was again involved in the build-up as he went on a great run into the box and rounded the goalkeeper and then unselfishly squared the ball to Williams who slotted the ball into the back of the net to make it 3-0.

A great team performance from the home side who dominated the game but credit to the travelling side Greystones United who never gave up even after going a goal behind in the first few minutes of the game but it’s the hosts who go away with the win after an impressive performance.
