History Society lecture
Our local Kilmacanogue History Society will present their first lecture Talk in the Glenview Hotel on Tuesday, October 2, at 8 p.m. Titled ‘The Famine and Workhouses in County Wicklow’ and as always, everyone is welcome with entry for non-members just €4.
In this year that we mark the 175th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Famine in Ireland that irrevocably changed the course of Irish history, this is an opportunity for people in Wicklow to learn more about how it affected our local area. Eva O’Cathaoir, who is a Scholar with a particular interest in this subject and Brian Donnelly Senior Archivist in the National Archives will present this talk and illustrate it with unique historical documents dating from the famine period that are in the National Archives.
The society would also like to make special mention of Mr Michael Kelleher on his retirement from his long service with Bray Library. Michael was always a good friend of Kilmacanogue History Society and they wish him all the best for the future.
