NEWTOWN JUNIORS FC

Plenty of action last weekend for our teams but pride of place goes to our new Academy team who hosted Arklow Town Black. There were plenty of thrills and spills on the pitch but on the day the Arklow side were a tad stronger than us. The players who played their first ever game were Donnacha, Hubert, Ruby, Mia, Finn, Jake, Noah, Adam, Adon, John Paul and Cian and well done to everybody.

The under-eights played some lovely football away to Greystones where among the players who came to the fore were Tyler Doyle, Aaron Nolan, Rory O’Gorman, Theo Messitt and Lorcan Owens.

Our under-nines played out a series of good games at home to Arklow Town Red where Ryan McDonald and Lucas Dowdall were among the players who starred.

It was a below par display from our under-10s (kindly sponsored by Real Debt Solutions) away to Greystones Yellow. The game ended 2-2 and the team equalised twice thanks to goals from Max Roche and Pat Carey. On the day best for Newtown were Aaron Roy, Kacey Kelly and Frank Lang.

Our under-11s maintained their 100% start to their Champions League Group with a 5-2 home win over the WDSL Academy. The goals came from Brooklyn Doyle (3) and Cormac Chance (2) in an excellent team display.

Two Newtown players namely Hannah Martin and Keira Farrelly lined out for the Academy side. In a game where if they were still on the pitch they wouldn’t put the ball in the net as they missed countless chances away to Ashford Rovers in a 2-1 loss. Fair play to the home side who took their chances. Aaron Cawley scored the Newtown goal while Hannah Martin and Jack Coughlan were among those that starred.

Our 14’s played away to Wicklow Rovers B and they came home with all three points in a 4-2 victory. The goals came from Luke Breen, Charlie Sullivan, Jason Carthy and an own goal.

The following are the fixtures for the weekending Saturday/ Sunday, September 29/30: Development Squad Practise every Saturday 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Academy Team at home to Arklow United ko Saturday at 11 a.m.; under-eights at home to Wicklow Rovers Blue ko Saturday at 10 a.m.; under-nines at home to Greystones A ko Saturday at midday; under-10s at home to Sporting Greystones White ko Saturday at 1 p.m.; under-11s away to Rathnew ko to be confirmed; under-12s away to Avonmore B ko to be confirmed; under-14s away to Coolboy Rangers ko to be confirmed (fixtures and ko times are subject to change)

All fixtures, competitive and non-trophy, will finish weekend of November 17/18, followed by the WDSL Awards, Presentation Day in the Parkview Hotel Sunday, November 25 (details times etc to follow in Oct).

Our ever-popular Development Squad has started back and will continue every weekend from 10 a.m. till 11 a.m. and new players are welcome. The cost is €2 per head. At the moment we have a large number of boys and girls attending each week and thankfully at the moment we have the required coaches needed but we wouldn’t say no to a few more volunteer coaches. If you think you can give an hour or two each week please contact our secretary at the contact details below.

Two players from the club celebrate their birthdays in the coming week and they are Nathan Hall from the Development Squad and under-10s goalkeeper Nichita Neaga. Happy birthday guys from everyone in Newtown Juniors FC.

Our Last Man Standing competition will start back next weekend on the 29th.

Sept/October 1. 2018 and it’s our first one of the season. To enter it costs €10 per head and the more players we get the more money we can hand out. Jim, your teachings will forever be treasured and your contribution to the community and to so many children’s lives can never be measured. Happy retirement.

The under-nines had a great day at their last blitz of the year in Ballinakill last Saturday, there was clearly a massive improvement over the season in the skills of each and every player, which is a credit to the many hours spent on the training ground, we would like to say thanks to all the players, parents and especially Paul, Tina and Alun for all the time and effort they put into this team over the year.
