10 (Un, Dos, Tres) Maria Ricky Martin With worldwide sales topping 33 million, Elton John’s double-A side ‘Something About The Way You look Tonight’/‘Candle In The Wind 1997’ is officially the world’s biggest selling single since UK and US charts began in the 1950s – though Bing Crosby’s ‘White Christmas’ is the biggest seller of all time, with sales estimated at more than 50 million copies. Elton’s original release of ‘Candle In The Wind’ – his tribute to Marilyn Monroe – didn’t make the UK top ten in 1974 (it peaked at 11). Meanwhile, ‘Something About The Way You Look Tonight’ didn’t even register in the charts when released in early 1997 as the first single from his ‘The Big Picture’ album. Then came the tragic death of Elton’s friend, Princess Diana, and the rerelease of the two songs as a double-A side, with proceeds going to Diana’s charities. The rest is history.
