LOCAL LADIES LAND LEADING ROLES IN RENT

-

ACTORS Emily Carroll from Bray and Amy Penston from Arklow have both been cast in leading roles for a forthcoming production of Rent.

The show will open its doors to the public at Dublin’s Liberty Hall Theatre on Tuesday, October 23.

The rock musical follows the ups and downs of a year in the life of a group of impoverished artistic friends, living in Manhattan’s East Village during the 1980’s, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS.

Bray native Emily Carroll graduated from the Guildford School of acting in 2013 and has been building her career in musical theatre ever since.

In the forthcoming production of Rent she plays the character of Joanne, an Ivy League-educated law graduate who shocks her parents by donning Doc Martens and refusing to wear a bra. ‘We’re inviting Irish audiences to come and enjoy a piece of musical theatre that was truly ground-breaking for its time,’ said Emily. ‘ The message is to live life to the fullest and without fear, it’s a message that is just as relevant today as it was 20 years ago.’

The ensemble cast also includes soap star Adam Weafer who recently finished his role in Coronation Street and 98FM’s Karl Dawson.

RENT runs to October 27, at 7.30pm each night. Tickets are €25-€30 at libertyhalltheatre.ie.
