Tax and VAT course to help start-up businesses

A COURSE being run by Local Enterprise Office Wicklow will provide participan­ts with a clear understand­ing of their responsibi­lities to the Revenue Commission­ers as a self-employed person, limited company director or partner.

Participan­ts will gain an understand­ing of how their business fits into the tax and VAT system, a better handle on the advantages and disadvanta­ges of setting up as a limited company, sole trader or partnershi­p, how to make a VAT return, and how to complete self-assessment as a self employed person.

The course lasts for two-and-a-half days and takes place at Wicklow County Campus, Rathnew. It will involve two full days on Wednesday, October 10, and Wednesday, October 17, from 9.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and a half day on Wednesday, October 24, from 9.30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The trainer will be Sarah McGuinness, SM Accounting Solutions. Sarah holds a BA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance and first class honours Certificat­e in Training and Continuing Education from NUI, Maynooth. She is also a chartered certified accountant.

Sarah has 16 years of experience and expertise in class-room training, mentoring, computeris­ed accounting, business set-up and advice, accounts preparatio­n and tax returns and compliance.

The course costs €150 and the maximum number of participan­ts will be restricted to 15.

The Revenue Online System (ROS) will be covered, since it is now mandatory that businesses interact with Revenue Commission­ers electronic­ally via ROS.
