Upset over no scoreboard

-

CARNEW Emmets and Avondale/Parnells supporters who turned up to Joule Park Aughrim to cheer on their under-17 hurlers on the biggest day of their hurling year were left feeling frustrated when it became apparent that the scoreboard was not in use for the game.

What made matters worse was that the names of the clubs involved in the second game of the day, the Darcy Sand Intermediate Football Championship semi-final between Tinahely and Kilmacanogue were being placed up on the board while the Under-17 ‘A’ final was ongoing.

One supporter contacted this reporter and said that it was ‘disrespectful to the Minor hurlers of the county’ that there would be no scoreboard for such a pivotal game.

Wicklow GAA chairman Martin Fitzgerald explained that the zapper for controlling the scoreboard is broken and that a new one and the repaired one are expected back in the very near future. Currently the zapper from Blessington GAA Club is the only one that can work the Aughrim scoreboard and there was a JAFC semi-final on in Blessington last Sunday morning that went to extra-time.
