Cyclists enjoy Autumn on the Tour of the Falling Leaves
OVER 150 cyclists from clubs all over Wicklow and surrounding counties enjoyed the beautiful colours of Autumn as they moved through the countryside while on a 70km cycle in aid of the Baltinglass Hospital Comfort Fund.
Organised by the local Lions Club, the popular Tour of the Falling Leaves returned for its 11th year and was a great success.
Participants gathered at Baltinglass GAA Club where they set off on their trek, stopping in Aughrim NS for refreshments before making for home once again to a welcome event with refreshments provided by Baltinglass Hospital.
Organiser Maureen Plant said that this year’s event went off without a hitch, thanks to the support of so many different people.
She extended sincere thanks to all the participants and clubs, John Gethings a seasoned cyclist, who has supported the event since the beginning, out riders Fergus Kenny, Kevin Richards and Seamus Doyle, Joe Plant for putting up the signage and driving the broom wagon behind the cyclists, Baltinglass Gardaí, Red Cross members Hannah Cuddy, Ann Halpin and Darragh Doyle, Bríd Owens principal of Sacred Heart NS, Aughrim and caretaker Gary, Brendan O’Neill caretaker of Baltinglass GAA Club, SuperValu Baltinglass and Marie and Eamon Horan for raffle sponsorship.
Since its inception, the Tour of the Falling Leaves has raised thousands of Euro for Baltinglass Hospital and has attracted the support of thousands of cyclists both from County Wicklow and further afield.
Once again the weather was kind and made for a very enjoyable outing for the seasoned cyclists.
The proceeds will be presented to Baltinglass Hospital in the coming weeks.
