New Youth Group: We are working hard in the parish to set up a new youth group for those aged 13 to 18.We met with 26 young people over the summer and they told us they would like to meet fortnightly in St Anne’s Resource Centre, so we have chosen the first and third Saturdays after Evening Mass. They are very interested in learning more about their Catholic Faith. They would like a mixture of games, talks, music, prayer time, movies and socials. A group of youth leaders will prepare and deliver each meeting. In order to launch the group, we need to have everything in place to ensure their safety. We are now seeking teams of adult supervisors and we ask for people to commit to one Saturday evening per month. We would require at least four adult supervisors each time the youth group meet. The role of the adult supervisor will be to open/close the centre, kitchen supervision and to make sure the youth (not the adults) leave the centre clean and prepared for Sunday School. Also, they will have to make sure each young person has someone to collect them. Training will be given to this group before the first youth meeting takes place. There will be an information session in the parish on Wednesday, October 10, at 8 p.m. and the youth group supervisors will be expected to attend this session. If you are interested in volunteering, please call into the parish office to complete the Garda Vetting application. You will need to bring photographic ID and also a utility bill with your address.

GAA CLUB NOTES

The juvenile academy is back in action at 10 a.m. every Saturday in Stonebridge Road. Please come along and give the Academy a try. The cost is only €2 per child each week and there is no annual subscription. All equipment is provided free and qualified coaches are always in attendance, it’s all about having fun with your friends.

Our fifth birthday party was held on last Saturday week in Stonebridge Road. It is hard to believe that five years has passed since the club was launched with 30 children and a couple of adults. Contrast that with last Saturday week where our car park, Stonebridge Road and St Anne’s school car parks were full to overflowing. Fun and games were the order of the day with Mini all-Irelands in football; hurling and camogie together with all sorts of goal shoot outs, face painting and lots more events. Loads of food was available with cakes hot dogs and drinks which the huge crowd enjoyed. It was a great day indeed for the club and a fitting way to mark this mile stone. Thank you to the party committee, parents, children and everyone connected to our club who made the day possible.

In the Chase the Ace draw in Brady’s there was no jackpot winner but the €50 prize went to Martin McBride. Last week’s jackpot was €1,150. Tickets are €2 each or three for €5.
