NEWTOWN JUNIORS FC

Brilliant weather last weekend for all our teams to play football in. Our Academy team showed improvement from last week’s game as they hosted Arklow United in a series of exciting games. Among the players who starred were Jake Fitzsimons, Tommie Ryan, Noah Synnott-Elliott, Mia Hamilton and Ruby Odlum.

The 8’s played very well in their games at home to Wicklow Rovers Blue and among their scorers were Nathan Donohoe, Tyler Doyle, Gerry Hoban and Lorcan Owens.

After an exciting series of games there was nothing to separate our under-9s and Greystones ‘A’. Among the scorers for Newtown were Albie Chance, Lucas Dowdall, Leon O’Connor, JV Kelly, Jack Barlow, John Turley and Oisin Duffy.

Super performance from our under-10s at home to Sporting Greystones White where some of the football and the goals scored were out of the top drawer. Goalscorers were Max Roche {2}, William Valentine {2}, Aidan Heffernan and Pat Carey. In fact William’s first goal was a cracker where he ran the length of the pitch before driving the ball to the roof of the net. On the day best were Mikey Synnott, Ryan Collins and Luke Turley.

Our 11’s dropped their first points of their Champions League group after an entertaining 4-4 draw away to Rathnew FC Jake Robertson scored another hat trick and Cormac Chance also found the net.

Our under-12s lost by the odd goal in three away to Avonmore ‘B’ where Patrick Martin scored the Newtown goal and Aaron Cawley, Pádraig Gammell and Jack Coughlan were the pick of the players on the day.

Our under-14s secured runners-up in Division 1 with a resounding 7-2 win away to fellow contenders Coolboy Rangers. What made the result all the more remarkable was the fact that they achieved it with 10 players. The group played out of their skin and arguably gave their finest display of the season. On the day Luke Breen and Charlie Sullivan both scored a brace while there were singles for Laragh Davies (30 yard screamer}, Jason Carthy and Adam White. Among the players who played well were Michael Byrne, Marcel Kocajda and Seán Bishop. Well done everyone you all made your coach Dave a very proud man on the day.

The following are the fixtures for the week ending Saturday/Sunday, October 6/7: Development Squad Practise every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.; Academy Team away to Arklow United ko to be confirmed; under-8s at home to Coolboy Rangers ko Saturday at 11.30 a.m.; under-9s at home to Ashford Rovers ko Saturday at 10.15 a.m.; under-10s away to Sporting Greystones White ko to be confirmed; under-11s – Fixture to be confirmed; under-12s at home to Greystones ‘B’ ko Saturday at 12.45 p.m.; under-14s at home to Roundwood FC ko Saturday at 11 a.m. (fixtures and ko times are subject to change)

At the moment we have a large number of boys and girls attending each week and thankfully at the moment we have the required coaches needed but we wouldn’t say no to a few more volunteer coaches. Five of our players will be celebrating a birthday in the coming week and they are Jack Stephenson and Filip Gaura from the Development Squad, Cian Foley from the Academy team, Kacey Kelly from our under-10s and Aaron Hackett from the under-12s. Happy birthday everyone from everyone in Newtown Juniors FC.
