Gaelscoileanna spend day at Tayto Park
THIS year Gaelscoil na gCloch Liath is celebrating the school’s ten-year anniversary.
They first opened their doors in September 2008 to 24 pupils, this September they welcomed back 444 pupils.
Celebrations began with a recent trip to Tayto Park along with thousands of other Irish-speaking children.
The day was a celebration for the school and for the Irish language.
The entire park itself will be closed to the public, and only children from Gaelscoileanna from around the country attended.
There were 50 gaelscoileanna and over 5,000 children in the park; this was the largest ever gathering of its kind.
‘We are very grateful to our patron body, An Foras Pátrúnacha, and to Foras na Gaeilge, for sponsoring this day for gaelscoileanna. The Foras are also celebrating their 25-year anniversary this year,’ said a spokesperson for the school.
‘ This trip was a fabulous occasion for us to celebrate our school community and ethos in a fun-filled way and provided our pupils with a wonderful opportunity to show that our language is a vibrant and living language.
‘We were delighted to be able to be a part of this celebration.’
