COURTHOUSE’S NEW SEASON IS UNVEILED
AN EXCITING new season is now under way at The Courthouse Arts Centre, Tinahely with four new events taking place during the month of October.
On Thursday, October 11, the Courthouse presents Amatis Piano Trio, an exhilarating young piano trio which presents a programme of Hadyn, Schumann, Feery and Mendelssohn.
Since winning the audience prize at the Grachtenfestival- Concours in Amsterdam and with a debut at the Royal Concergebouw, they’ve taken the chamber music scene by storm. On this tour they will premiere a new work by Irish composer Amanda Feery, commissioned by Music Network.
Doors open at 8.30 p.m. and admission is €16/€14.
Friday, October 19 brings An Exploration of the Words and Music of Paul Simon to the Courthouse for the Courthouse Café. The line-up includes Frank Gallagh and Brian Whelan and this is a fundraiser for the centre. Doors open at 8.30 p.m. and tickets are €10.
Art lovers are invited to the launch of the Heart of the Matter, an exhibition of 15 new works by Arklow artist Pauline Merry with quotes selected by Lida Quigley. The show opens at 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 21 and runs until December 6. Admission is free.
Another one for music fans is The Roller Trio which play the centre on Friday, October 26. Expect plenty of punchy grooves, high octane technicality, deceptively catchy riffs and swirling electronica as the Mercury Award-nominated Roller Trio roar into Tinahely.
With influences ranging from Fly Trio and Tim Berne to Queens of the Stone Age and Flying Lotus, the Leedsbased trio waste no time in getting heads bobbing with their idiosyncratic blend of pin-tight beats, cool melodies and juddering stop-start motifs. New to the line-up, Chris Sharkey brings bass and ambient wizardry to the mix, his dark, multi-layered textures the perfect foil to James Mainwaring’s John Zornian abstract-sax and the ingenious, twisting grooves of drummer Luke Reddin-Williams. Doors open at 8.30 p.m. and tickets cost €16/€14.
