Stars come out to play for Roundwood Lip Sync Legends
THE stars were out in force in Roundwood on Saturday night, including a typically flamboyant Freddie Mercury and a swivel-hipped George Michael.
The line-up of pop and rock and roll royalty were all lending their support to the Lip Sync Legends fundraiser for Roundwood AFC held at Aras an Tochar.
The event was launched back in August and each featured act has spent the past couple of months busily organising their own fundraiser in preparation for the big night.
Saturday was a complete sell-out and performers taking to the stage at Aras an Tochar included Lauren Delamare as Whitney Houston, Damien Johnson as George Michael, Jackie Phibbs as Sia, Eamonn, Derrick and Jason as Father Ted and Dougal, Becky Molloy as Taylor Swift, Nikki and Rachel as Jessie J and Ariana Grande, Jason Byrne as Mark McCabe, Karen Kinsella as Cher, Lucy and Alannah as Snap, Shane Langrell as Freddie Mercury and Una Stephens, Deirdre Smith, Ann Broderick and Nadia Tuckett performing as the Gospel group Mary Mary.
Each act was judged on both the amount of fundraising they carried out and on the votes received from the public on the night.
The performers were then whittled down to the final four acts – Becky Molloy as Taylor Swift, Shane Langrell as Freddie Mercury, Jason Byrne as Mark McCabe and Una Stephens, Deirdre Smith, Ann Broderick and Nadia Tuckett performing as Mary Mary.
It was then left up to the judges to decide the overall winning act. Faced with a very difficult decision was the judging panel of theatre producer and writer of The Cheerios Panto, Karl Broderick, Ciaran Dunne, Marketing Manager of sponsors Altura Credit Union Ltd Tom Brennan and drama and dance tutor Rob Murphy.
The finalists performed once more before the judges decided that Mary Mary were the winning act.
