Kirwan and Duffy on fire in Avondale

THERE was more excellent athletic competitio­n in Wicklow last week when the uneven ages and Intermedia­te championsh­ips were held in the grounds of Avondale House last weekend.

Aishling Kirwan secured the Intermedia­te crown when she finished ahead of Kilcoole’s Clair Lauder in second place with Bray’ Mary Hayde finishing in third spot. Parnlles won the team title. Inbhear Dee’s Paul Duffy stormed home to win the men’s Intermedia­te race.

He was followed closely by Kilcoole AC’s Colm Murphy while Parnell’s Mick Finan came home in third spot.

A large crowd of competitor­s and supporters turned out on the day at the beautiful course that was perfect for cross country running.
