St Anne’s Resource Centre Hours: St Anne’s Resource Centre is open 9 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. Monday to Thursday and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those requiring Baptism/Confirmati­on certificat­es or applicatio­n forms for baptism can obtain them during the above hours. Please note that the parish office is the only place where certificat­es and applicatio­n forms can be processed.

Mass Times: Mass is celebrated in St Anne’s Church at 10 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. Monday to Friday (except during July, August and September). Weekend Mass times are Saturday 6.30 p.m. Vigil Mass and on Sunday at 8 a.m., 10.30 a.m. (Family Mass), midday, and 6 p.m. Confession­s are heard on Saturdays after the 10 a.m. Mass, between 12.30 p.m. and 1 p.m., and after the 6.30 p.m. Mass. Mass is now broadcast online and can be viewed by logging onto the parish website: stannespar­ishshankil­l. com and then clicking onto video link.

Bethany Bereavemen­t Group: Operates Drop-In Centre in St Anne’s Resource Centre on the first Friday of each month at 10.30 a.m. The Bethany Bereavemen­t Support Group is a voluntary ministry. The volunteers are trained to listen and to help the bereaved and grieving.

Crosscare: We would like to thank you for your most generous contributi­on to the recent annual collection for Crosscare Community and Homeless Services. It is with your help and support that we continue to reach out to the needy in the diocese.

Child Safeguardi­ng: The Dublin Diocese require all those involved in parish life as Ministers and volunteers to take part in a 2-hour session on child safeguardi­ng. A representa­tive from the Dublin Diocese will be in St Anne’s Resource Centre tonight (Wednesday) at 8 p.m. and we ask anyone who is involved in the parish as a minister/volunteer to come along to this session.

Remembranc­e Mass: Will be celebrated on Sunday, November 4, at 6 p.m. in St Anne’s Church.

OLD DUBLIN SOCIETY

Shankill and District readers wishing to join the Old Dublin Society, which covers the history of Dublin City and county including Shankill, can obtain a membership applicatio­n form from public libraries in Shankill, Dalkey, Cabinteely, and Bray, or by post from James Scannell, 19 Hazelwood, Shankill. Tonight (Wednesday) James Scannell will present his lecture ‘The Torpedoing of the RMS Leinster October 1918’ at 6 p.m. in the Conference Room of Dublin City Library and Archive, 138-144 Pearse Street, Dublin 2.

FIRST SATURDAY BOOK SALE

Last Saturday morning there was a very large attendance at the October First Saturday Book Sale, which supports the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the Shankill Old Folks Centre, Lower Road, at which there was the usual excellent selection of books, DVDs and CDs available. The November First Saturday Book Sale takes place in the same venue on Saturday, November 3, so make a point of calling into it during that Saturday morning and

avail of the opportunit­y to pick up some excellent reading material for the autumn. Donations of books, other than school/text books, will be accepted on that day.

SHANKILL LIBRARY

Opening hours for Shankill Library are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on alternate Fridays and Saturdays. The library will be open this Friday but closed on Saturday.

The parents and Toddler Group meets on Monday mornings (except bank holiday Mondays), from 10.30 a.m. to 11.20 a.m.

The next meeting of the Book Club will take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 6, at 7 p.m.

Rathmichae­l Historical Society Last Wednesday night Philip Lecane opened the autumn programme of the Rathmichae­l Historical Society, the local history society for Shankill, Ballybrack, and the surroundin­g area, at 8 p.m. in Rathmichae­l National School, Stonebridg­e Road, with his lecture recalling ‘The Sinking of the RMS Leinster’ in which he outlined the events leading up to this maritime tragedy, the centenary of which is today (Wednesday).

The Rathmichae­l Historical Society extends its congratula­tions to Philip on the launch last night (Tuesday) of his latest book ‘Women and children of RMS Leinster: Restored to History’ in the DLR Lexicon.

IRISH COUNTRYWOM­EN’S ASSOCIATIO­N

The Shankill guild the guild meets on the second Monday of the month at 3.30 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Craft Morning takes place in St Anne’s Resource Centre on Tuesday mornings from 10.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. Culture outings are held at different times throughout the year. SHANKILL GAA CLUB

The juvenile Academy Sponsored by O’Donnell’s Pharmacy is back in action at 10 a.m. every Saturday in Stonebridg­e Road. Please come along and give the Academy a try. The cost is only €2 per child each week and there is no annual subscripti­on. All equipment is provided free and qualified coaches are always in attendance, it’s all about having fun with your friends.

Schools football blitz was on Thursday in Stonebridg­e Road starting at 2 p.m. with St Anne’s, Rathmichae­l, Gael Scoil Pádraig and Scoil Mhuire taking part. Action last Saturday week saw under-eight boys away to Ballyfermo­t while the under –11 boys were at home to St James Gaels.

Last Sunday week the under-14 girls’ football had a terrific tussle with Ballyboden St Enda’s in Shanganagh Cliffs and the adult ladies’ football team were away to St Bridge’s.

In the ‘Chase the Ace ‘draw in Brady’s there was no jackpot winner – the €50 prize went to Jason Fitzpatric­k. Last week’s jackpot was s €1,200. Tickets are €2 each or three for €5 available in the pub or from club members.

Are you aged over 50 and interested in joining a local community social group? Shankill Social Club is looking for new members and new ideas. MARTELLO PRODUCTION­S

Local drama group Martello Production­s are set to take part in the all-Ireland One Act competitio­ns and will perform at all six festivals around Ireland in the hope of reaching the allIreland Finals in Kilmuckrid­ge, Co. Wexford. Before embarking on this quest they are providing their local audience an opportunit­y of seeing their entry ‘Notes on Falling Leaves’ by Ayub Khan-Din. This Friday night they are bringing a night of oneact plays as along with their own production, they have invited the award winning Modelbox Theatre to perform their entry to the competitio­n ‘A Frank Exchange’ by Nicholas Marsh.

‘Notes on Falling Leaves’ is a beautifull­y written piece about a son coming to terms with his mother’s early onset of dementia, directed by Orla Malone and stars Colm Kearns.

‘A Frank Exchange’ is set during the Second World War and deals with the dilemmas facing secretary Helena Classen, working for the Nazis, under pressure to pass on informatio­n to friends in the Resistance, and who is also the mother of a handicappe­d son. This production is directed by Kevin Duignan.

These plays will be performed this Friday night at 8 p.m. in the Burton Hall, Rathmichae­l Parish National School, Stonebridg­e Road. Tickets cost €10 or €5 with concession (includes tea and coffee) and on the ticket line at 086 2633955.

CHANGE IN BUS OPERATOR

Last Sunday Go-Ahead Ireland took over the operation of the bus route 45a (Dun LaoghaireK­ilmacanogu­e) from Dublin Bus under a Transport for Ireland Public Service Contract for the National Transport Authority. Buses diverting to Shanganagh Cliffs will be designated 45B to differenti­ate them from the normal 45A service. The new operator will provide a peak time 20-minute interval peak time between 9 a.m. and 7 a.m. reverting to a 30-minute interval service outside these times. On Sundays a 30-minute interval service will operate with first buses commencing at the earlier time of 8.30 a.m. Other routes take over by this operator from Dublin Bus last Sunday were routes 59, 63 and 75. Bus passes and Leap cards will be valid on buses operated by Go-Ahead Ireland. New timetables for the route 45A and the other routes can be downloaded from their website.

PUBLIC NOTICE

A section of the Wicklow Way, outside Laragh village will be closed in the interest of public safety. The foot bridge on this section of the Wicklow Way has been closed for repairs. The repair of the bridge will start Monday, October 8, and finishing Friday, October 12. Please divert via Laragh village if you come accross the closed area.

LARAGH BADMINTON CLUB

We hope to see a good attendance for the start of the new badminton season. Starting Mondays September 17 for Fourth Class (7 p.m. to 8 p.m.) and Fifth and Sixth Classes (8 p.m. to 9 p.m.). Secondary school students play between 7 and 8 p.m. Membership costs €60 per child for the year; €16 of this goes directly to Badminton Ireland. The membership fee for senior players is €120 playing time is 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays.

MORNING YOGA WITH LOUISE
