Progress being made on two playgrounds

ROUNDWOOD LAND TRANSFER NEAR COMPLETE WHILE €50K FOR LARAGH

- By MYLES BUCHANAN

WORK on a new playground for Roundwood will commence once the transfer of lands from Roundwood and District Athletic Club to Wicklow County Council has been finalised.

The local authority provided €30,000 towards the purchase of the site and the land transfer is currently being finalised by solicitors representing both sides.

Planning permission has already been granted and Wicklow County Council will provide €100,000 in funding toward the development. Haffey Playgrounds have been awarded the contract.

‘At the moment there are still some legal matters that require finalising but that should all be complete before Christmas, if not earlier,’ said Cllr Shay Cullen. ‘Hopefully work can start once the transfer of lands has been complete. Four years of hard work has gone into the plan for a playground in Roundwood and it is highly anticipated by the local community. It went to tender and Haffey Playgrounds won the contract. They are specifically involved in constructing playgrounds so they are real experts in this field. The playground has full planning so there isn’t anything tat can prevent it from becoming a reality once the land has been transferred’.

Equipment planned for the playground includes a Quadruple Kondor Swing, Butterfly Spring Rocker, Flower Jumping Plates, Beginners Walk, Standup Sea-saw, Salvia Unit, Kilmandscharo Unit and a Satellite Carousel.

Wicklow County Council has also committed to providing €50,000 toward a playground in Laragh at the Brockagh Resource Centre and Cllr Cullen would like to see both projects commence at the same time.

‘I would hope work at both playgrounds would start in tandem. There shouldn’t be any hold ups. The Brockagh Resource Centre is the ideal location. There is ample car parking and it is an area people regularly frequent.’
