Minimal damage after Storm Callum

-

STORM Callum left Bray and much of north County Wicklow relatively unscathed last week.

There was some flooding on Killarney Road at Hill’s Garage, and trains were suspended between Greystones and Bray for a period of time on Friday morning.

The weather alert remained at orange, rather than being escalated to a red status which would have encouraged people to stay indoors and avoid travel.

The rail suspension was due to a points failure at Greystones. The fault was repaired within a couple of hours.

For passengers travelling from further south, Irish Rail did not provide a coach to continue their journey. However, Dublin Bus accepted tickets during the disruption.

The council’s Severe Weather Co- Ordination Group convened last Thursday and Friday to consider and review the response of the relevant agencies to the storm.

The group includes representa- tives of the gardai, HSE, fire service, civil defence, council staff and is chaired by the Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council, Frank Curran.

‘While County Wicklow did not suffer any major infrastructural damage, there were some fallen trees and debris caused by fallen branches etc. across the county,’ said a spokesman.

The council engaged in a clean-up operation on Friday in the aftermath of the worst of the storm.
