Elena’s sporting story is shared across the globe
SPORTS SHOW IS DISTRIBUTED IN 100 COUNTRIES
A SPORTS show featuring Irish hockey sensation Elena Tice has been distributed to broadcasters in over 100 countries by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
While Elena may be more closely associated with hockey after the Irish women’s heroics in reaching the final of the Women’s Hockey World Cup Final, she is also a seasoned and accomplished cricket international for Ireland.
The feature on Elena was part of the ICC’s flagship, magazine-style programme, ‘ICC Cricket 360°’, and initially aired on Sky Sports on Sunday, September 30.
Now it will be screened across the globe over the next few weeks.
The magazine style show is watched by millions of cricket fans in over 100 countries, including Ireland, the UK, the US, Australia, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Oman, Netherlands, China, Nepal, Hong Kong, and even non-traditional cricketing nations such as Papua New Guinea and Rwanda.
Glenealy resident Elena featured in every game as the ladies in green captured the hearts of the nation on their journey to the World Cup Final against the Netherlands. Elena was born in Basingstoke in England and spent time living in Vienna where she picked up her love for cricket.
She moved to Ireland when she was eight years old and began playing cricket with Aravon School and Merrion Cricket Club in Wicklow.
International recognition wasn’t far away and in 2011 13-year-old Elena became one of the youngest cricket players ever to feature on an Irish senior team. She would go on earn her 50th cap for Ireland when she was just 16 years of age.
Elena also earned her 50th cap in hockey whilst still a teenager, culminating in 100 caps between cricket and hockey.
It was only when she was 14 that she started to play hockey competitively and won a Leinster Schools Senior Cup with her school, St Gerard’s in 2015, while also earning caps for Ireland at underage level.
Elena broke into the senior ranks in November 2016 when she was still a student at St Gerard’s, making her debut against Scotland and going on to establish herself as a key member of the team ever since.
