ON A DARK, STORMY NIGHT...

-

MANGLED FERRET Theatrical Expeditions present The Old Dark House, by Alan Nolan and Ian Whelan, at Whale Theatre on Sunday and Monday, October 28 and 29.

The play will be on at 8 p.m. on the Sunday and 4 p.m. on the Monday.

It’s the ultimate dark and stormy night. Seeking shelter from a pounding rainstorm in a remote region of Wales, five weary travellers are admitted to a gloomy, foreboding mansion belonging to the exceptionally strange Femm family.

Trying to make the best of it, the guests must deal with their sepulchral host, Horace Femm, his obsessive, malevolent sister Rebecca and the other peculiar inhabitants of the old dark house.

From here on, it seems the weather is the least of their troubles.

Originally premièred in Dublin’s Crypt Theatre in 2001, the original cast returns to perform this blistering comedy.

Mangled Ferret were the one time self professed worst band in Dublin - way back in the eighties when that kind of thing meant something. After a prolonged absence they ditched all musical pretence and went back to their first love - comedy.

Tickets are €18 or €15 concession and available at whaletheatre.ie. MERMAID Arts Centre will present an evening w their dance artists in residence, Karen Gleeson and A McAtamney, on Wednesday, October 17, at 8 p.m.

‘Hear my Hands’ by Karen Gleeson is a multi-d plinary film installation fusing dance, audio and v projection. The work explores the use of sign langu and movement as a form of communication, delvin to the frustration and difficulties involved with misc munication in relationships. For the final performa of one of Mermaid’s dance artists in residence, A McAtamney performs a contemporary dance solo ca ‘Muse’. The nine Greek muses of the arts are the cho graphic motivation.

The dancers’ harp movement sequences create perc ble physical patterns, constructing a distinct and spir physical reality on stage. The muse’s involvement in solo provide an opportunity for the artist to articulate basic need for continuous physical expression.
