BOBBY HONOURED

-

The under-nines faced Avonmore in a 4-match series and think they might have edged it by 20 goals to 19 (Non-competitive, just fun). The whole squad played really well with Luke Dunne, Dara Redden and Zoe Bradshaw all in excellent form.

The under-11s faced runaway leaders Arklow in the league and lost 7-2. It is very disheartening for all those involved with the team that the Glens are in such a high league and it is hoped that the league will look at this favourably when the new series of matches are arranged.

The under-12s played their best game of the season to date at the weekend when they faced league champions elect Greystones and drew 1-1in a game that could have gone either way. Michael Prendergast slotted away a penalty to even up the score in second half but special mention must go to the ‘Man of the match’, Finn Kelly, who according his manager Alan Prendergast, put in an unreal second half performance.

The under-14s made a great start to their shield campaign with a 6-0 home win over Arklow Town. Oisin Kelly hit three with Jamie Grehan, Euan Bowman and John Fox also finding the back of the net. Manager Karl Bradshaw described it as one of their best displays of the season with every single player giving it everything they had. Glens were 3-0 up within the first 20 minutes with a brace from Oisin and a goal from Jamie from the half way line as the lads came out with a real attitude for the game and didn’t let Arklow settle in to the game, just before half time Oisin made it 4-0 to complete his hatrick. It was 4-0 at half time and the Glens made the changes and with the replacements straight into the action, they took up were they left off in the first half. Euan Bowman made it 5-0 and John Fox then made it 6-0 shortly to seal a great win.

The seniors were up against old foes Newtown United in the Premier and can consider themselves very unlucky to lose out on a 3-2 score line. Dean McCormack gave the Glens the lead with a great free kick before a defensive lapse let Newtown in just before the break. Glens had a few chances that went a begging before New town scored twice. Simon Doyle pulled one back late on with a stunning strike but it wasn’t enough and the ‘Magpies’ held on to take the three points. Simon Doyle and Josh O’Callaghan were excellent in a good team display.
