ST ANNE’S PARISH

Resource Centre Hours: St Anne’s Resource Centre is open 9 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. Monday to Thursday and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those requiring Baptism/Confirmati­on certificat­es or applicatio­n forms for baptism can obtain them during the above hours. Please note that the parish office is the only place where certificat­es and applicatio­n forms can be processed.

Mass Times: Mass is celebrated in St Anne’s Church at 10 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. Monday to Friday,(except during July, August and September). Weekend Mass times are Saturday 6.30 p.m. Vigil Mass and on Sunday at 8 a.m., 10.30 a.m. (Family Mass), midday, and 6 p.m. Confession­s are heard on Saturdays after the 10 a.m. Mass, between 12.30 p.m. and 1 p.m., and after the 6.30 p.m. Mass. Mass is now broadcast online and can be viewed by logging onto the parish website: stannespar­ishshankil­l.com and then clicking onto video link.

Bethany Bereavemen­t Group: Operates Drop-In Centre in St Anne’s Resource Centre on the first Friday of each month at 10.30 a.m. The Bethany Bereavemen­t Support Group is a voluntary ministry. The volunteers are trained to listen and to help the bereaved and grieving.

Bethany Bereavemen­t National Bereavemen­t Support for Adults: A five-week Bethany Bereavemen­t Support Group programme will take place in St Anne’s Resource Centre, Shankill, from 8 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. on the following dates in 2019 – Monday, January 14, Monday, January 21, Monday, January 28, Monday, February 4, and Monday, February 11, If you are feeling the pain of any loss at all, this series of meetings may offer support and consolatio­n in a place where healing can begin. This is a completely free service provided by trained volunteers in the community. If you would like more informatio­n or to book a place in the group please call St Anne’s Resource Centre at 01 2822704. The Bethany Bereavemen­t Group is a voluntary parish-based ministry who are trained to listen and to help the bereaved and anyone grieving any loss.

JPII Youth, Shankill: The new youth group will launch this at 7.30 p.m. till 9 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. The group will be aimed at people aged from 13 to 18 and will meet on following dates this year – This Saturday; Saturday, November 3, and Saturday, November 17; and Saturday, December 15, We extend a warm welcome to all the young people in our parish who would like to meet new people, have fun and learn more about their faith. You are more than welcome to come along and bring a friend. To celebrate the new youth group, pizza will be provided on the first night. We are very happy to hear which areas of the Catholic Faith YOU would most like to learn about, and we will arrange speakers. Note for Parents: Please collect your child at 9 p.m. Garda vetted adult supervisor­s will be present for each meeting.

World Mission Sunday: This weekend we celebrate Mission Sunday and remember the many priests, sisters, and lay people who have gone to different countries through the world to help in whatever way they can to spread the Gospel.

Community Games – endless possibilit­ies: Tea or coffee and treats on Sunday, November 4, in St Anne’s Resource Centre at 11.30 a.m. following the 10.30 a.m. Mass to celebrate our 2018 successes. All invited.

Remembranc­e Mass: Will be celebrated on Sunday, November 4, at 6 p.m. in St Anne’s Church.

Christmas Fair: The Parish Christmas Fair will take place on Sunday, December 2, in St Anne’s Resource and is the principal annual parish fundraisin­g activity. Last Monday night a planning meeting took take place at 8 p.m. in St, Anne’s Resource Centre to which all stall holders were asked to attend. Sponsors are also sought for the raffle and spot prizes. If you can assist us in any way, please contact Martin Walsh or Pat Maguire through St Anne’s Resource Centre.

Basket Appeal: The organisers of the Parish Christmas Fair are looking for clean baskets which are suitable for use as hampers at the Charismas Fair. Donations of these can be left into St Anne’s Resource Centre on weekdays.

Remembranc­e Stole: If you would like to honour the memory of a deceased loved one on the stole, please place a piece of cloth, distinctiv­e and with personal associatio­ns approximat­ely 10x15cm or 6’x4’, in the basket at the back of the church and it will be added to the stole for All Soul’s Day November 2.

October Film Night – Friday, October 26,: The monthly Film Night has been moved to the last Friday night of the month and will take place at 8 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. The film for Friday, October 26, will be ‘The Great Caruso’ starring Mario Lanza. Free Admission, All welcome – admission free.

Rosary for Peace: Is said every Saturday at 3 p.m. in St Michael’s Church, Dun Laoghaire.

Men’s coffee morning: The Men’s coffee morning takes place every Friday from 10.30 a.m. to 11.30 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Please join us if you are free.

BOOK SALE

The November First Saturday Book Sale, which supports the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n, takes place on Saturday, November 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n, Lower Road, Shankill, so make a point of calling into it during that Saturday morning and avail of the opportunit­y to pick up some excellent reading material for the autumn.

Donations of books, which must be in a good and clean condition, other than school/text books, will be accepted on that day. Photograph­s and memorial cards found in donated books can be collected at the book sale. Supporting the First Saturday Book Sale supports the Shankill Community.

SHANKILL LIBRARY

Opening hours for Shankill Library are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on alternate Fridays and Saturdays – The library will be closed this Friday but open on Saturday. HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Howard Clarke will be the guest speaker for the Wednesday, November 7, 8 p.m. meeting of the of the Rathmichae­l Historical Society, the local history society for Shankill, Ballybrack, and the surroundin­g area at which he will present his lecture Did Brian Boru save Ireland from a Viking Conquest? in Rathmichae­l National School, Stonebridg­e Road, Shankill, and all are welcome to attend – admission €4.

The Rathmichae­l Historical Society extends its congratula­tions to Philip Lecane on the launch last Tuesday week of his latest book ‘ Women and children of RMS Leinster: Restored to History’ in the DLR Lexicon.

ICA GUILD

The guild meets on the second Monday of the month at 3.30 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Craft Morning takes place in St Anne’s Resource Centre on Tuesday mornings from 10.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. Culture outings are held at different times throughout the year. SHANKILL GAA CLUB

The juvenile academy is back in action at 10 a.m. every Saturday in Stonebridg­e Road, Shankill. Please come along and give the Academy a try. The cost is only €2 per child each week and there is no annual subscripti­on. All equipment is provided free and qualified coaches are always in attendance, it’s all about having fun with your friends.

Our AGM will be held on Monday, November 19, at 8 p.m. in St Anne’s Recourse Centre, Dublin Road, Shankill. The first round of our local primary schools football blitz was a great success and the second round was held at 2 p.m. last Thursday in Stonebridg­e Road.

Last Saturday week we were delighted to welcome Westmansto­wn Gaels, Gerladine P Morans, Terrelstow­n, Croi Ro Naofa and Naomh Olaf clubs to Shankill while the under-10 hurlers were away in a blitz with Na Gaeil Ora and Stars of Erin.

Last Sunday week our under-eight girls’ footballer­s were away to Thomas Davis, our under-nine girls’ footballer­s were at home to Bray Emmets and our under-14 girls’ footballer had another creaking encounter against Ballyboden St Enda’s.

In the ‘Chase the Ace’ draw in Brady’s there was no jackpot winner – the €50 prize went to Mick Mullins. Last week’s jackpot was €1,250. Tickets are €2 each or three for €5 available in the pub or from club members.

SHANKILL SOCIAL CLUB

Are you aged over 50 and interested in joining a local community social group? Shankill Social Club is looking for new members and new ideas.

Planned activities include a guest speaker on the Fair Deal Nursing Home Scheme on Monday, October 15; a guest speaker with Gardening tips for the Spring and the autumn on Monday, November 19, and visit to Dail Eireann – date to be confirmed.

COMMUNITY GAMES

Work on participat­ion in the 2019 Community Games will commence on Thursday, November 8, with the holding of a meeting in St Anne’s Resource Centre, Shankill, at 8 p.m. when a planning meeting will take place and all are welcome to attend.
